What is Sophronizo?
Sophronizo comes from the Greek in Titus 2:4.
My heart for this ministry and my own walk with the Lord comes from Titus 2:3-5.
3 Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, 4 and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, 5 to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.
Strong’s #4994: sophronizo (pronounced so-fron-id’-zo)
from 4998; to make of sound mind, i.e. (figuratively) to discipline or correct:–teach to be sober.
Thayer’s Greek Lexicon:
sōphronizō
1) restore one to his senses
2) to moderate, control, curb, disciple
3) to hold one to his duty
4) to admonish, to exhort earnestly
Many years ago, I learned this Greek term and the meaning in scripture through another women’s ministry. That ministry and several others over the years have encouraged me to dig deep in the Word and truly know it.
Colossians 3:16-17 says, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. So, it is with this desire to minister and teach that I come to you with this website to share my heart and His Word.
